EXPERIENCE PROGRAM

Below is information about the Summer Youth Employment/Work
Investment Areas and Community Action Agencies. Please let me know if
you need anything else.

Summer Youth Employment/Work Experience is primarily intended to
teach effective work habits and behaviors and develop work readiness
skills for those who have never worked or who have not worked for a
significant amount of time.

“Work Experience” is designed to provide youth with opportunities for
career exploration, to gain exposure to the working world and its
requirements; to help youth acquire personal attributes, knowledge, and
skills needed to obtain a job and advance in employment and skill
development and not to solely benefit the employer. Acceptance into the
Summer Youth Employment/Work Experience Program is dependent
upon meeting the eligibility requirements of the designated funding
source and federal guidelines.

“Work Experience” is not designed to replace an existing employee or
position. Participation in a Summer Employment/Work Experience shall
be for a minimum of 5 to 8 weeks, scheduling a maximum of 40 hours
per week between May 1st through September 30th with work readiness
based on the availability of staff.

Public, non-profit, and for-profit organizations are eligible to serve as
work sites for a Summer Employment/Work Experience.

Work sites that are not eligible for a Summer Employment/Work
Experience include: casinos or other gambling establishments,
aquariums, zoos, golf courses, or swimming pools. In addition,
participants must not be employed to carry out the construction,
operation, or maintenance of any part of any facility that is used or to be
used for sectarian instruction or as a place for religious worship.
